Orchestra

The Vivian Field Middle School Orchestra has been in operation for over 50 years and has been growing strong ever since. Our courses offered are beginner orchestra (all grade levels), Concert Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra, and Symphonic Orchestra. Our directors support our students being well rounded and involved in all aspects of their education: academics, fine arts, and physical education.

Pathways

The Viking Orchestra Program begins in the sixth grade with instruction on violin, viola, cello, and bass. These students learn in homogeneous classes and focus solely on the instrument they choose.

The Concert Orchestra is made up of students mostly 7th graders, but may occasionally have 6th or 8th graders. This ensemble will continue individual development in technique, tone, and music through a progressive curriculum of middle school level music literature.

The Philharmonic Orchestra is made up of students who have one or more years of experience. It is mostly 8th graders, but may have some 6th and 7th graders as well. This ensemble will continue individual development in technique, tone, and music through a progressive curriculum of middle school level music literature.

The Symphonic Orchestra is our most advanced orchestra at Field Middle School. It is made up of advanced 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. These students show a high level of musical ability and technique. They strive to exhibit competency in scales, complex rhythms, vibrato, and shifting.
